Ethernet
NI&S implements, manages, and operates the university's data network and offers wired Ethernet connections campus-wide.
Students: Each residence hall room has one active Ethernet connection. For additional wired connections in the residence halls, NI&S recommends the use of an Ethernet switch, available at the university bookstore or other retailer of choice. Personal wireless routers are not permitted in the residence halls.
Wired Data Services and Options

Power over Ethernet (PoE)
Both Ethernet 100M and Ethernet 1G are available with PoE for devices requiring power from the network connection.
RLAN
To help protect personally identifying information (PII), the Information Technology Security Office (ITSO) and NI&S have collaborated to create the Restricted/Limited Access Network, or RLAN. The RLAN provides additional layers of protection for network and computing environments for employees who work with larger volumes of PII.
Data Center
Ethernet service is available for servers hosted in the AISB data center.
Load Balancing
Ensure maximum availability, greater performance, and increased reliability of your networked application with high-capacity load-balancing services.
The Application Load Balancing (ALB) service operated by NI&S evenly distributes the network traffic for a particular service (for example, the main university website) across multiple physical and virtual servers, which operate as a single server for ALB subscribers. Housed in the controlled environment of the university Data Center in Andrews Information Systems Building (AISB), the service has backup electrical power and is monitored 24/7/365. The result is a highly available and scalable application delivery system.
